My Take on Photojournalism

Many things motivate me in life such as wanting to become a CRNA, my family, my friends and wanting to build a successful life for myself. Down below depicted are the different pictures that motivate me such as my family and even a picture at the beach because it looks peaceful. The picture at the beach demonstrates peace to me since I love to read and be near the ocean and that's what still keeps me going in life which is finding joy in the simple things. The other picture of a CRNA is what I want my career to look like and while going through nursing school that is what motivates and pushes me to do better. After reading all my classmates blog posts from the Photojournalism and Bias Padlet I can see the cumulative impact it had on everyone. The cumulative impact all these images had was making a statement on Ed Clarke's photograph since it represents plenty of hardships. The cumulative impact of the truths and untruths would be with the truths many of my fellow classmates chose to show off images that were inspirational and raw while the untruths were images that were edited or showed off some type of political lie. The way I responded to my classmates' photos were all through my emotional senses due to the pictures they put for their truths. Bias and truth can be looked at and seen in photojournalism but are two completely different terms. When audiences take a look at an image, they tend to have different interpretations due to what they have experienced in life and what they deem to be true. Photojournalists are extraordinary and go through many lengths to show the reality of the world and different people's lives through images that tell a story. More specifically, women photojournalists are courageous in their efforts to capture images throughout the years in many different situations from war to social movements. Women as a whole have a tendency to see things emotionally while capturing the beauty in it like with images in photojournalism.   Photojournalism & Racial Injustice The contemporary photojournalism issue I chose would be the topic of racial injustice and how it has had a major impact on photojournalism in current times. The topic of racial injustice can be sensitive, uncomfortable and sad at times but overall needs to be addressed. Photojournalists help in addressing the problem by spreading awareness through the different meaningful photographs that tell a story of what is happening around the world. Photojournalism is art portrayed in the best way. Art can be seen as drawings, paintings or coloring but the great thing about photojournalism is it embodies art through images. It tells a story without having to use words or draw; but instead, by snapping pictures to tell one's story and their reality.  Photo by Alexander Gardner  Year Created: 1865 Subjects Expression In the image the subjects look relaxed and calm while taking the picture, which was surprising to me due to the year being 1865 and a lot of segregation and discrimination happening during the time. In the image the subjects aren't blinking and aren't overly posed which makes me wonder the purpose of the picture.
